Keylock Techniques

Keylock from Side Mount

1. Karl has side control on Tyrone. He underhooks the far arm and has a crossface on the near side. Tyrone is pushing his forearm up into Karl’s throat to take the pressure of the pin off his body.

Side Mount Step One

2. Karl reaches his left arm up and grabs Tyrone’s wrist, taking it from under his throat.

Side Mount Step Two

3. He pins the wrist to the floor. Note that he keeps his elbow tight to Tyron’s head, and does not lean forward over the body.

Side Mount Step Three

4. Karl places his right hand (which was already underneath Tyrone’s arm) palm down on his left wrist. He then slides his right elbow towards Tyrone’s hips, tightening the control on the arm.

Side Mount Step Four

5. He lifts the upper part of Tyrone’s arm, which torques the shoulder and forces Tyrone to tap.

Side Mount Step Five

Keylock from Mount

1. Karl is in mount on Tyrone.

Mount Step One

2. He places both hands on one of Tyrone’s arms and pushes it to the mat.

Mount Step Two

3. With the arm flat on the mat, Karl keeps it in place with his right hand on the wrist. He keeps his right elbow tight to Tyrone’s head. Note that he does not lean off to one side where he compromises his balance.

Mount Step Three

4. Karl puts his left hand underneath Tyrone’s upper arm and places it on his own wrist.

Mount Step Four

5. He pushes down on Tyrone’s wrist while lifting the upper arm, cranking the shoulder for the submission.
