25/07/08 - MMA News: Shogun may fight Coleman in December
Mauricio ‘Shogun‘ Rua may be getting a long-awaited rematch with Mark Coleman in December, according to a recent interview.
The Brazilian light-heavyweight said that the UFC had mentioned the bout to his management but nothing has been signed yet.
“I might face Mark Coleman on December, but nothing has been signed yet. He wanted to face me on November, and I really want to face him,” Rua told Tatame magazine.
“I hope this time he doesn’t run from me. He said no to me a couple of times, but I believe now it will happen.”
The pair first fought at Pride 31 in 2006 and Coleman was awarded a win by technical knockout after Rua sustained a broken arm in the opening minute of the fight.
As well as the broken arm, the fight was notable for a near-riot that ensued immediately afterwards, when Chute Boxe team members stormed the ring to confront Coleman.
In the ensuing melee, members of both camps fought in the ring and Coleman’s cornerman Phil Baroni took Wanderlai Silva to the floor while Coleman stood on his neck.
The incident caused a feud between Chute Boxe and Hammer House which the Brazilians swore to settle in the future.
