02/04/08 - UFC news: White says no to Silva boxing match
Dana White has told Anderson Silva to stop talking about a boxing match with Roy Jones junior, it has been reported
There has been a lot of media interest in Silva's apparent desire to fight the legendary boxer but the UFC will never allow it to take place, according to Dave Meltzer of wrestling observer
Silva first expressed an interest in boxing with Roy Jones junior following his dismantling of dan Henderson at UFC 82, but the idea was dismissed as fantasy until Silva's manager Ed Soares confirmed that his charge was indeed serious.
According to Soares, Silva feels aggrieved that boxers often deride the technical abilities of mixed martial artists and is keen to demonstrate that MMA practitioners can compete at a high level in other combat sports.
Despite his motives, Silva's ambition is eccentric and on paper seems to fall somewhere between misguided and suicidal - Silva sports a 1-1 record in the boxing ring, while Roy Jones junior is 52-4.
In addition, he was declared to be the Boxing Writers Association of America's "Fighter of the Decade" for the 1990s, and once held the WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO, NBA, WBF, and IBA light-heavyweight championships simultaneously.
