30/07/10 - Ken Shamrock paid, many other still waiting for Impact purse

Further to yesterday’s reports that fighters have not been paid by Australian promotion Impact FC, it has emerged that a handful have received some or all of their purses while others have received nothing at all.

Ken Shamrock has been paid his whole purse and so has Pedro Rizzo, according to Cage Potato, but Murilo Bustamante is yet to receive anything according to MMA Weekly. Today, Fighters Only learned that Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley has thus far received only a fraction of his promised purse.

Yesterday it emerged that Impact FC’s promoters - Andrew McManus and Tom Huggins - were at odds over who should be paying the fighters, with both laying responsibility at the other’s door. Huggins lives in Brazil and has returned there, McManus claiming none of his calls to Huggins are being answered or returned.

Impact FC staged two events in Australia earlier this month, both loaded with talent and both taking place just one week apart from each other. Despite much fanfare and talk of becoming an international MMA power, Impact FC failed to excite much interest in Australia.

Ticket sales were poor, and pay-per-view sales are also said to be low. Floor seat tickets initially priced at $350AUS were available for $55AUS on the night and there is considerable evidence to suggest that Impact FC required considerable walk-up buys on the night to have any hope of even covering its expenses.

Impact FC also struggled to attract sponsorship and Huggins has claimed that this was because the UFC threatened companies who had lined advertisements up, allegedly saying they would be blocked from the UFC if they went ahead. Impact FC had a conspicuously blank canvas for the first event, which was  headlined by Josh Barnett.
