29/07/10 - Paulo Thiago talks Kampmann, Sanchez
Constrictor Team fighter Paulo Thiago has gone through tough fights since he joined the UFC. In his latest challenge, he was defeated by Martin Kampmann in a loss decision at UFC 115, a result that the Brazilian policeman treats as educational.
“The loss will teach me a lot. It made my path difficult but I need to go back to the grind. Only those who fight know what its like to lose,” reflected the athlete. As usual, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva found another bitter adversary for the Brasilia native to face. Diego Sanchez is in line for UFC 121, in October.
Paulo spoke to Sensei Sportv his feelings on the upcoming bout. “I think it’s good for my career. All my fights took place on the main card. If they give me tough guys that’s because they know I can beat them up, become recognized and a fighter who sells and give financial return to the event. I guess I disappointed them a bit with the last loss”.
The unique path to develop himself as a fighter is to improve the training, both ground and stand-up skills. Paulo Thiago laments the opportunity wasted against Kampmann and reveals the plans for near future.
“I’ve got to improve my trainings more. I need to sharpen my wrestling, floor and stand-up games. I was close to finishing Kampmann while he was walking back and didn’t take advantage of it. I have already got travels scheduled to Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia,” he said, adding that he recently trained at Black House and with boxing coach Luiz Dorea in Salvador.
