16/04/10 - Arlovski: "I need to keep my discipline, Rogers was embarassing"

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has talked to TapouT Radio about training with Greg Jackson at his facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico as he prepares for his May 15th fight with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva on the ‘Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery’ card.

Arlovski is coming off two losses, to Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers respectively, and knows that he needs to come back big against Silva, who is coming off a loss (to Fabricio Werdum) and is also looking to get back on track.

“When I came to Albuquerque for the first time I was excited about how Greg Jackson pushes his fighters. He runs with us, he is next to us all the time, all the time he can find the right words to push you and so you say to yourself ‘Come on, I have to do it’ and I am really excited about this camp. I am sure I am going to come back over and over, I am very excited,” he said in last night’s TapouT Radio appearance.

Asked whether he had his crosshairs over Fedor and Rogers for the future, Arlovski said that for once he will not look past his opponent.

“Of course I want to be the best and I want to fight the best fighters but it seems like every interview I am like, of course I want to face Rogers, of course I want to face Emelianenko, I want to face Overeem. Now, one step at a time. Bigfoot, May 15th and we see what happens after,” he said.

“He is tough, he is very dangerous and he needs to come back, I need to come back. Its going to be a tough fight definitely. He is a black belt in jiu jitsu, he has heavy hands, he has a strong chin and every time you hit him he comes back with three, four, five punches.”

Arlovski also conceded that his main weakness is possibly concentration, something he intends to rectify in this next fight. He and Jackson have worked hard on a gameplan and he intends to stick to it regardless of temptations to deviate or showboat.

“I have to keep in mind that if I hurt him that I need to keep discipline, because what happened when I fought Emelianenko? Everything was fine for three minutes then for some reason I decided to do a flying knee and I paid for it. I didn’t take Brett Rogers seriously, he knocked me fucking out in the first round, twenty seconds. It was embarrassing for me. I have to stick to my gameplan, simple,” the Belarusian heavyweight growled.
