20/03/10 - Marquardt was offered Bisping for UFC 114

A fight between Nate Marquardt and Michael Bisping was on the cards for UFC 114, but could not be made because Marquardt has a baby due around that weekend and he did not want to be absent for the birth.

“They offered me Bisping for May 29th but I have a baby due on May 27th so I turned it down. I don’t want to have any regrets in life, like ‘Man, I missed my kid’s birth,’” Marquardt told today’s Fight Club Q & A session.

Bisping’s team mate Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is on the UFC 114 card, headlining the event in a fight against his long-time rival Rashad Evans. Bisping is also reported to be on the main card, in a fight against Dan Miller.

Bout agreements for Bisping-Miller have not been signed but Fighters Only has been told that verbal agreements are in place and the fight is a lock barring injury to either fighter. Bisping is coming off a loss to Wanderlei Silva, while Miller has dropped two straight decisions in his last pair of outings, taking him to 3-2 in the UFC.

Bisping is 2-2 in his last four Octagon appearances but his high profile means he is unlikely to be facing the loss of his UFC contract should he lost to Miller, who is almost certain to get cut from the roster should he suffer his third consecutive loss at UFC 114.
