15/03/10 - Versus back on DirecTV, UFC broadcast March 21st
Good news for fight fans, the UFC and WEC today as it was announced that Versus will be returning to DirectTV following the resolution of a dispute between the two sides. Versus has long broadcasted the WEC and recently signed a deal to carry two live UFC events per year as well.
DirecTV is available in around 18 million homes and when Versus was removed from the network last year, fight fans reacted with dismay. Today a series of tweets on the official DirecTV account revealed that the problems with Versus’ parent company Comcast have been resolved.
“DIRECTV and Comcast have reached an agreement to return VERSUS to the DIRECTV programming lineup today. VERSUS will be returning to the same programming packages it was at the end of August 2009,” the first two tweets provided.
A follow-on message said “Versus should be up on Channel 603 no later than 7PM ET/4PM PT” while jubilant UC president Dana White tweeted “Ladies and gentlemen VERSUS is back on Direct TV!!!!!! Just in time for the UFC fight live on Sunday!!!!
Today’s news is a big boost for ‘UFC on Versus 1’ which takes place this Sunday March 21st. The event is headlined by a light-heavyweight match between Brandon Vera and Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and will now be available to a significantly larger audience than expected.
