12/03/10 - Primetime: GSP v Hardy part one 'draws 1m viewers'

Whether they favor Dan Hardy’s outspoken confidence or Georges St. Pierre’s aura of ‘true champion’ calm, fans have been lapping up the UFC 111 promotional output eagerly and creating an atmosphere of anticipation that is rivalled by few other fights in recent memory.

Underlining the hype are the viewing figures for part one of the three-part Primetime series that is preceding St. Pierre’s title defence against Hardy, who on March 27th will become the first-ever Englishman to challenge for a UFC title.

MMAPayout.com has reported that the premiere episode of Primetime - which aired on Wednesday in the USA - “was the most watched episode in the history of the series”, a considerable achievement when one considers the stars that the series has focused on in the past.

The report states the show drew an average audience of 1 million people and hit a home run in the male 18-34 and 18-49 demographic by scoring a 1.1 and 1.0 rating respectively. Conversion rates are of key interest now - what percentage of those million people who watched the show will buy the pay-per-view broadcast?

According to MMA Payout, “If these levels of interest convert on the same scale as they did for UFC 94, we’re easily looking at the highest grossing PPV offering since UFC 101 – somewhere in the range of 700,000 – 850,000.”
