07/12/09 - Undisputed 2010 "will have a lot of improvements"

UFC Undisputed 2010 will be the best UFC video game ever and a sure hit with fans, a source close to the project told Fighters Only in a brief conversation recently. Undisputed 2009 was a huge seller after being released in May this year and developers THQ are confident of replicating that success next year.

“There’s been a lot of improvements made, particularly in relation to issues that fans raised after playing the first game. Collision detection has been improved, the way the ground game operates has been improved,” our source said. “There will be changes to the way submission escapes work, many fans felt it was too strength-based. And didn’t reflect the real-life skills of certain fighters.”

“There will also be new features to the career mode, with players finding that their fighter attracts media attention as he climbs the rankings. And there will be a wider range of options for customising the characters you build,” he added.

One oft-repeated criticism of Undisputed 2009 was that the cage wall does not affect gameplay significantly. Fans have suggested that clinching against the cage should be a more usable tactic in the game, and hitting the cage wall should also affect whether a takedown is successful or not.

Asked if any of these changes have been implemented, our source laughed, “I can’t give everything away - you’ll just have to wait and see!” UFC Undisputed 2010 will be shown publicly for the first time at next week’s Video Game Awards and is expected to have a second-quarter 2010 launch date.
