26/11/09 - Kimbo turns down fight wth McSweeney

Kimbo Slice turns down a fight with James McSweeney in the latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter season ten. A double-episode screening sees Kimbo being diagnosed with arthritis, then refusing to take Matt Mitrione’s place against McSweeney.

“I can’t fight on my toes.. I won’t perform like I want to perform and I don’t want another loss on my belt to be honest with you.  I can’t stomach that,” the former street fighter says. “In my whole career I’ve never turned down a fight but this is mixed martial arts. You’ve got to be smart.  I’m no Einstein but I can tell you right now I am in no condition to be fighting a kick-boxer like James McSweeney.”

With Kimbo out of the picture and harsh words from Dana, Matt Mitrione steps up to the challenge of tackling McSweeney in a quarter-final match up.  But with a long-lasting feud continuing to brew between the two heavyweights, team-mate Mike Wessel speculates: “James hates Matt.  They say don’t fight on emotion but I think James may go in with a little too much aggression.”

Elsewhere, Scott Junk is forced to endure painful laser surgery following a bout that left his retina torn by Matt Mitrione.  With the heartbreaking revelation that Junk can never fight again, best friend Marcus Jones makes a big drama in training by walking up to Mitrione and yelling, ““I’m gonna kill you bitch!  I’ll kill your mother fucking ass!”

However, he somewhat takes the wind out of his own sails by concluding, “Give me a reason. Hit me! I’ll kill you!” (Surely if he was really ready to ‘kill’ Mitrione he would not need any further provocation?) And as the competition reaches fever-pitch heated rivalries continue to brew.  During their quarter-final weigh-in, James McSweeney and Matt Mitrione come to blows as Matt taunts the temperamental Brit, “I can’t wait to put your bitch ass to sleep mother fucker!”

Intent on causing a stir, McSweeney’s attention soon turns to outcast Zak Jensen.  But trapping the claustrophobic loner inside the bathroom is the final straw and Jensen finally reaches breaking point.  In the series’ most explosive scenes yet, the two come to blows with no referee in sight.

Will James McSweeney’s assault on the competition carry him through to the semi-finals and see him flying the union jack into a live finale at the Las Vegas Palms?  UK viewers can tune into The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights on Saturday night to find out, only on the FIVE USA network.
