25/11/09 - BJ Penn: "I have already won"

BJ Penn says he feels like he has “already won” his UFC 107 lightweight title defence against number one contender Diego Sanchez. The two will throw down on December 12th and some are expecting Sanchez’s superb conditioning to pose problems for Penn, but The Prodigy isn’t one of them.

"I got nothing bad to say about Diego Sanchez - I think he's a little strange here and there, but he's a very credible opponent. He's a good fighter; strong, good grappler, good wrestler and he's improved his striking. I think he would have brought a lot of problems to me back in the day, but right now…” he says.

“I don't know. I'll just go out there and do my best and have fun. With that said, I feel like I've already won. I'm going out there and I'm going to get to live my dream one more night in front of everybody. When was the last time someone went right after Diego Sanchez? That's a questions that his coaches better figure out. I'm coming baby."

Penn has been defeated just once at lightweight - a  UFC 35 loss to Jens Pulver, which he avenged with a 2007 demolition job following a season where they both coached TUF teams.

Sanchez has been fighting at lightweight since January this year, making his 155lb debut with a decision win over Joe Stevenson and following it with a split-decision win over Clay Guida in a Fight of the Year candidate.
