21/11/09 - Dana: Karo has got a lot of problems to sort out
UFC president Dana White has commented further on Karo Parisyan’s last-minute withdrawal from UFC 106. The troubled Armenian welterweight pulled out of a fight with Dustin Hazlett on Thursday, prompting White to dismiss him from the organisation altogether.
“Karo Parisyan has a lot of problems: mentally, physically and emotionally. He has got more problems than I can even talk about. He needs to get his personal life sorted out before he can even think about fighting again,” White said yesterday.
“The things that he has done with the last three fights are so ridiculous, its unforgivable. I like Karo Parisyan, has had his days where there were some great fights, but he hasn’t been that Karo Parisyan in a long time, he needs to get his life together.”
Parisyan’s one-time training partner Neil Melanson - now Randy Couture’s grappling coach - says he saw Parisyan several weeks ago. Parisyan was apparently still having trouble with injuries and was taking medication.
Unfortunately that medication is likely to have been in the same vein as the substances he was banned for using earlier this year. Melanson believes Parisyan is addicted to the opiate-derived painkillers he has been using for a long time, and he faces a battle to get off them before he can fight professionally again.
Parisyan had been due to go to Greg Jackson’s facility in New Mexico for a training camp but never showed up. His Las Vegas training partners said they saw him only intermittently in the run-up to UFC 106.
