20/11/09 - Nogueira will be back training in a few weeks, says his brother

UFC heavyweight Rodrigo Minotauro will be back in training within three weeks, according to his twin brother Rogerio, also known as ‘Little Nog’ because he campaigns at light-heavyweight.

“Rodrigo will leave the [staph] infection to heal for about 15 or maximum 20 days. He's good. The arm is already deflating, it had swollen as much as it was going to,” he told Brazilian site Terra, adding that he is not sure when his brother will be fit to fight.

“You have to wait for the infection to recede before returning to training. I do not know if he will be ready in time to fight at UFC 109 but within a few weeks he will return to training,” he explained.

Rodrigo was forced to withdraw from UFC 108 when his staph infection - which he was in the grip of earlier this year at the time of the Frank Mir fight - resurfaced and caused him to be admitted to hospital. The infection had reached his bloodstream and required an intravenous drip to combat it.

Nogueira’s withdrawal from the card added to the UFC’s current matchmaking woes. BJ Penn is their only healthy champion and yesterday Karo Parisyan withdrew from UFC 106 on 48 hours notice. Training partners of his say he would likely have failed a drugs test for the same painkillers he was banned for using earlier this year.
