10/11/09 - Strikeforce say Fedor "could be out for four to six months"
Fedor Emelianenko could be out of action for four to six months, according to Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker. The Russian heavyweight hurt his left hand during his fight with Brett Rogers on Saturday night and will most likely require surgery.
“It could've been from that blow when he had Brett on the mat at the end," Coker told the LA Times. "We're hearing he could be out for four to six months."
Fedor suffered a fracture and some tendon damage in his left thumb - something he has suffered before - and also received a broken nose, courtesy of the first punch of the fight. He is still in America being treated and is expected to return to Russia this week.
With Fedor sidelined, Strikeforce is likely to push its heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem back into action, perhaps looking for him to defend his title against somebody before meeting Fedor in the cage.
