05/11/09 - Shogun "pissed off" about Machida decision
The rematch between top UFC light heavyweight fighters Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Shogun is up in the air after Machida underwent hand surgery to pull out some pieces of broken bone, according to his manager Ed Soares.
But Shogun’s coach Andre Dida says his friend must expect to fight for the title again before being offered any other opponent. Dida also states the result was unfair and just put delayed Shogun winning the belt.
“The fight went against Lyoto, right? Everybody saw Shogun performed very well. The belt is Shogun’s. It was a fatality Lyoto has injured his hand but the next defence of the belt has to be against Shogun, or else it will be very unfair to him,” he said to Terra Magazine.
“I believe Shogun would rather to wait for the rematch rather than fight another adversary. He will fight for the belt. I think he is going to wait for Lyoto’s recovery to square off him”. he added that Shogun “got pissed off,” after the outcome of the UFC 104 title fight last month “He felt injustice because he had the fight in his hand and knows he didn’t mess up the game plan.”
“Rua applied perfectly the fighting plan and won all the rounds. The hits that he landed were harder than Machida’s and we didn’t count on that unexpected judges decision. Mauricio was very sad but is calmer now thanks to the care of the fans. He watched the fight again and knows he won,” Dida remarked.
“Even though the judges gave Lyoto one round, he couldn’t have won. Not one hit affected Shogun while Machida was harmed by Rua. Shogun was more efficient and killed Lyoto’s game. Look at who left the Octagon entire!” he added.
“Even those who doen’t understand fighting would give Shogun the win, and those with specialist knowledge even more so. We knew his game, we knew he would work like that and the fight wouldn’t match well for him. They can fight five times and Mauricio will win all of them. It’s a bad fight for Lyoto. The antidote for Machida is to attack the legs and Rua knows how to make the move.”
“I think the revenge will take place in four months at the most. Dana went to the restroom after the fight and said he liked Shogun presentation so much and that Mauricio was victorious in his opinion, he said he would make efforts to make the rematch happen. Shogun was very happy because the outcome was unfair. We had a feeling of injustice. For real, the controversial result only delayed what belongs to him.”
