04/11/09 - UFC negotiating with Renzo Gracie
The UFC is negotiating with Renzo Gracie about fighting in the organisation, according to company co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta. Responding to a fan’s tweeted request to “bring Renzo to the octagon asap!!!” he replied, “We are workin on it!”
The possible arrival of Gracie in the UFC has been the subject of much speculation in recent days, sparked when UFC president Dana White posted a picture of himself with the New York-based jiu jitsu specialist and asked fans if they would like to see him in the Octagon.
Gracie himself has kept quiet about any move to the UFC, but earlier this year there was also talk of Pat Militech fighting for the UFC again. He and Gracie fought in the IFL, Militech losing by submission, and if the two end up on the UFC books then there is an obvious rematch there.
Gracie holds a record of 13-6-1 and last fought in 2007 when he beat Frank Shamrock in an EliteXC fight (Shamrock was disqualified for knees to the head of a downed opponent). A middleweight, he has fought for PRIDE, K-1 and the IFL among others.
