22/10/09 - Sylvia to face Hong Man Choi or Overeem on NYE
Tim Sylvia is looking at a fight with either Hong Man Choi or Alistair Overeem at this year’s K-1 Dynamite show on New Year’s Eve. The event will be a mixture of DREAM and K-1 fights and Sylvia revealed last week via his Twitter account that he had agreed to appear on the card in an MMA fight.
His manager Monte Cox says that Alistair Overeem and Hong Man Choi have been proposed as opponents for the former UFC heavyweight champion. He favours taking a fight with Korean giant Choi.
"We're still trying to make a comeback, so I think he and Choi be the best match-up," Cox told MMA Fanhouse. "Wow, two monsters! That would be fun."
Sylvia has not fared well since leaving the UFC early in 2008. He was defeated by Fedor Emelianenko at the first Affliction show, then followed that with a humiliating nine-second KO loss to old boxer Ray Mercer in June this year.
Last month he beat Jason Riley (6-2) by first-round TKO at Adrenaline MMA, but suffered a broken right hand in the process. That injury is now apparently healed and he is ready to compete again.
Other fighters being lined up for K-1 Dynamite 2009 are Shinya Aoki, Kid Yamamoto, Bard Hari and Kazushi Sakuraba.
