28/09/09 - Kimbo denies bringing a pistol to ATT after being arm-barred

Kimbo Slice has denied that he went to his car for a pistol when he was arm-barred by a training partner at American Top Team some time ago. The rumour was first circulated this week by one of Slice’s fellow TUF 10 contestants, who said he heard the story from Kimbo while they lived in the TUF house together.

Asked by Fighters Only today if there was any truth to the rumour, he said, “First of all about my pistol - I carry my gun with me wherever I go man, I don’t have to leave and come back with nothing.

Regarding the armbar story he said, “Yeah I was at ATT a couple of years ago and I got arm-barred but I didn’t go and get no pistol or nothing like that. But yeah I got arm-barred and I didn’t like it. But I know how to defend that shit now so I wont be having them problems no more.”

Was it the fact he was arm-barred that incensed him so, or was it that he felt his training partner was going too far? “Ah that was a couple of years ago man, I would have to go and refresh my memory on that one,” he laughed.

Slice is still training with American Top Team and has continued his MMA studies there since filming of TUF 10 concluded. But he was interested in Rashad Evans’ recent comments about training together at Greg Jackson’s place in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“That would be a possibility. Greg Jackson’s camp, I’ve heard, is the best out there right now. Anyone who is trying to become of a fighter or become a better fighter, I’ve heard that - other than American Top Team - Greg Jackson’s camp is the best out there.”

Oddly, Slice says he has “never really been part of a camp” in the past. I don’t know what to expect from a camp, I just know what I want from a trainer and how I expect to be trained”.

Slice is currently appearing in season ten of The Ultimate Fighter and will be fighting Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson in this week’s forthcoming  episode, which can be seen on Spike TV in the US and on Five USA in the UK.
