18/09/09 - Confirmed: Florian leaves Sityodtong, engages GSP trainer

Kenny Florian has parted company with Sidyodtong and will be training with Georges St. Pierre’s coach in future, Fighters Only can confirm.

Fighters Only first learned of a rift prior to Florian’s fight with BJ Penn, when a source close to Florian told us he had not spent a full camp with Sityodtong as he usually would.

Today that same source confirmed to us that Florian has come to an arrangement with Firas Zahabi, who heads up the TriStar gym in Montreal.

The decision to part company with Sityodtong means that Florian will no longer have his camps conducted by Marc Dellagrotte.

It also means he has parted company with strength and conditioning coach Kevin Kearns, who also had limited involvement in preparations for the Penn fight.

Neither Florian nor Sityodtong have yet made an official comment on the situation, although out source says “something should be coming soon”.

Florian’s next fight will be against Clay Guida, who is coming off a loss to Diego Sanchez at the TUF 9 finale.

Sanchez is the top contender in the lightweight division at present and will fight BJ Penn for his belt at UFC 107 in December.
