04/09/09 - Semtex Daley replaces Swick against Kampmann at UFC 103
Mike Swick has been forced to withdraw from a UFC 103 fight with Martin Kampmann after suffering an injury in training.
His place will be taken by new UFC signing Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley, who was originally supposed to face Brian Foster on the card.
"I got the call and I accepted. I came to the UFC to fight the best, and that's what I am going to do, Daley told UK newspaper The Sun today.
"Kampmann is on a roll with the UFC, but I will roll over him. Semtex is going to explode onto the UFC's welterweight scene at UFC 103."
UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik says that Daley has arrived in the UFC “with a lot of hype, a lot of ability and - as he's already proved - a lot of confidence”.
"He was asked to step up and, real fighter that he is, he accepted right away. He's already done the UK proud by stepping up and I know he's going to go all out to do exactly the same at UFC 103,” Zelaznik added.
"He has an attack-minded style and British fans will be able to see Paul make his debut against one of the best 170lbs fighters in the UK on ESPN."
It was understood that the winner of Kampmann-Swick would go on to get a title shot against UFC welterweight boss Georges St. Pierre.
If Kampmann emerges victorious against Daley he may still get that shot, but Daley is unlikely to be offered a crack at the belt if he wins.
According to The Sun, Swick was injured by his American Kickboxing Academy training partner Josh Koscheck, who swept him off his feet and caused a head injury.
