05/08/09 - Mousasi: "I will honour Strikeforce contract"

Gegard Mousasi has said he will honour his agreement with Strikeforce following recent reports that his management had misled him about the amount of money the UFC had offered him for his services.

"I am fighting in Strikeforce now and Scott has always been honest to me,” Mousasi told Fighters Only today. “I have a contract with Strikeforce and I am going to honor that."

The DREAM double-champion said that he did not wish to comment on allegations that his management had misled him about the value of the UFC offer.

Shortly after it was reported Mousasi was heading to Strikeforce - in the wake of Affliction Entertainment’s collapse - reports emerged that the UFC had sent a ‘cease and desist’ letter to Strikeforce amid claims that Mousasi had been misinformed about the deal they were offering him.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker alluded to the letter this week when he spoke to TapouT Radio, saying that Mousasi is now a Strikeforce fighter and that the planned fight with Babalu Sobral on August 15th will be going ahead.

The UFC and Strikeforce have enjoyed cordial relations until now, but the Mousasi dispute and Strikeforce’s other acquisitions hints at a potential collision in the future.

For his part, Coker played down any hint of contention in his radio interview, saying that he admires Dana White and the UFC should be thanked for saving MMA in North America.
