28/07/09 - Anderson: I have signed to fight Roy Jones Jr
Anderson Silva ha reiterated his intention to retire when his UFC contract is up and says he has signed some agreements to fight Roy Jones Jr under professional boxing rules as soon as he is retired from MMA.
"It is undoubted that I will face Roy Jones. We have talked too much, have signed some contracts and we want to make it the sooner the better. It’s not for money or spotlight, it’s for my desire," he says.
"I watch Roy Jones since he competed as an amateur and in the Olympic Games. I’m looking forward to this fight to put in the ring everything I know, to show my students in the future that I understand what I may say over this or that and don’t seem a pirate parrot."
"Before that UFC is my focus. Dana treats me very well, as do all the staff of the organization. However I have to search what is better for myself," he concluded.
The UFC middleweight champion says he is “very satisfied with my results [in the UFC] and I want to continue this way until the end of my contract”.
Stating that he will retire when the contract is completed, he explained the thinking behind his decision to Gazeta de Povo.
“I have other projects and wish to get closer to my children,” he said. “Maybe I will open a school in Curitiba to give the opportunity to students and friends and pass them my experiences of fighting as a coach.
“My contribution to MMA is getting to the top. I proved what I had to prove to myself but I still want to compete with kimono and in No Gi."
Silva has four fights left on his current contract. His next fight is with Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 next weekend.
