20/07/09 - Wand 'has not been offered Bisping'

Wanderlei Silva has not been offered a fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 105 in November, Fighters Only has been told.

A source close to the Brazilian legend says rumours he is to meet the middleweight Brit at the November event in the UK are unfounded.

“There are no plans at this time for Wand to fight anyone,” the source tells us. “Wand is still taking time off and enjoying family time and teaching Class at the Wand Training Center here in Vegas.”

Rumours that Silva and Bisping might encounter each other at UFC 105 began circulating prior to Bisping’s fight with Dan Henderson at UFC 100.

It was suggested that Bisping would get Anderson Silva if he was successful against Henderson, Wanderlei Silva if he was not.

Both Silva and Bisping are coming off losses (to Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson respectively) and the fight would undoubtedly be a huge draw for UK fans.

But insiders are talking about Bisping getting back on track via fights with previously unsuccessful middleweight contenders such as Patrick Cote.

However, talk of a Bisping-Wanderlei Silva match has ignited message boards and the UFC is known to be plugged in to its fan base. With some months between now and UFC 105 it is possible fan enthusiasm could prompt the UFC to look at making the fight.
