18/06/09 - Kelly wants Junie Browning next
Paul Kelly wants TUF8 delinquent Junie Browning as his next opponent - and says he will get one of the UFC's bonus awards if they make that fight happen.
“I hope my next match-up is Junie Browning. Its a better match-up for me, he would stand there and fight me, it would be an exciting fight. And he was talking shit about me a bit ago,” Kelly told Fighters Only today.
The Wolfslair lightweight is coming off a decision win over Roli Delgado at UFC 99 last weekend. The fight was a tough one for Kelly, as Delgado’s jiu jitsu countered his top game ground and pound perfectly. The fight turned into something of a jits match, so Kelly is looking for fireworks in his next outing. He thinks Browning would be the perfect foil.
"I am just going to see if he wants to fight me and if he does then we will do it. I just want an exciting fight in my next one, like the Mandaloniz and the Taylor fights,” he explains. “Delgado was an awkward opponent and he tied me up a lot, he was exactly the kind of opponent to make me look bad.”
“I’m looking to get Fight of the Night in my next one. I would like a Knockout of the Night as well, but I like to put on exciting fights so Fight of the Night is the one for me. Hopefully Browning would stand there and bang with me and then believe me, I’ll get the bonus.”
Kelly is now 3-1 in the UFC, with two of those wins and one loss coming at welterweight. The fight with Delagdo was his first at lightweight.
“Its the right weight for me,” Kelly says of his drop to 155lbs. “I made the cut this first time with no problems, so its only going to get easier.”
