28/05/09 - Machida: First title defence in September
Newly-crowned UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida (15-0) has revealed that his first title defence will be in September this year.
The announcement was made on his personal website, which declares: "Next Fight! September 2009, Las Vegas, NV' (see picture to right for screenshot).
UFC president Dana White has already announced that Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson will be getting the first shot at Machida's newly acquired title.
Speculation has been rife that Jackson and Machida will be opposing coaches on season ten of The Ultimate Fighter, which begins filming soon.
Jackson confirmed he would be taking up a coaching sport on TUF 10 in a post on his Twitter account yesterday.
And a coaching spot opposite Jackson would be an ideal way for the UFC to build Machida with fans who have not yet connected with him.
However, Machida's manager Ed Soares said yesterday that his client would not be appearing as a coach on the show. The UFC has yet to make official announcements on who the coaches will be.
