17/03/09 - Arlovski to make pro boxing debut April 11th
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovksi will make his professional boxing debut on Saturday April 11th, it has been reported.
He will box on the undercard of Paul Williams-Winky Wright in Las Vegas, according to boxing website Ring Talk.
The Belarusian - who lost his challenge for the WAMMA belt held by Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction 2 earlier this year - does not yet have an opponent confirmed.
He has been talking about switching from MMA to boxing for some time and has been training with Freddie Roach in order to pursue that goal.
Roach “is looking to put Arvloski in half a dozen fights and then have him challenge somebody of note”, according to the Ring Talk report.
It adds that Roach “doesn’t often make a fool of himself when it comes to things. Thus I would think Arvloski,… can beat the “ham & eggers.” Question here is will the 30-year be able to rise above that level?”
Pundits noted that, despite losing by knockout in his fight with Emelianenko on January 24th, his hands and movement looked much improved after training with Roach.
Arlovski is 15-6 in his MMA career with 11 KO’s to his name and despite coming from a Sambo background also has a reputation as a solid kickboxer.
