13/03/09 - CroCop not coming back to UFC?
Mirko ‘CroCop' Filopovic will be heading back to DREAM/K-1 in Japan and not the UFC, according to a report from a Croatian sports website.
The heavyweight kickboxer has been offered a three-fight deal and a K-1 rules match with Alistair Overeem, according to Sportal.hr
In July, the Japanese want me to reprise my fight with Alistair Overeemom and by K-1 rules," Filopovic said. "I have nothing against continuing last year's fight, which ended prematurely."
According to Sportal, "when [K-1] heard that the president of UFC Dana White called Mirko to go back into the cage, people from DREAM reacted quickly".
The purported three-fight deal includes the K-1 match with Overeem and two MMA rules fights, one of which could be with Fedor Emelianenko.
Sportal also claims that DREAM is looking to organise a heavyweight grand prix event with Emelianenko, Filopovic and Semmy Schilt among the participants.
Filopovic was reported to be considering a move back to the UFC this year and was at one point reportedly being lined up for a fight with Randy Couture at UFC 99 in Germany.
UFC president Dana White told Fighters Only in January that he had been in touch with Filopovic, but nothing had been agreed.
The Croatian went 1-2 in the UFC, beating Eddie Sanchez but losing to Gabriel Gonzaga and Cheick Kongo.
