06/03/09 - Rosi Sexton signs for Bellator FC

Europe’s top female fighter Dr. Rosi Sexton has signed a four-fight deal with the US-based Bellator Fighting Championships.

Her first fight will be against Jessica Aguilar (5-3-0), who train with American Top Team and is a veteran of BodogFIGHT.

Aguilar and Sexton share a common opponent in the shape of Carina Damm; Sexton submitted Damm with an armbar while Aguilar lost to her by decision.

Aguilar is also going into the fight off the back off a loss, while Sexton’s last fight was a win over Debi Purcell in the EliteXC promotion.

But Aguilar will enjoy something of a hometown advantage in the April 3rd fight and has also been scheduled for that card for some time, whereas Sexton is taking the bout on short notice and fighting out of her usual weight class.

Both fighters have an arsenal of submissions at their disposal – Aguilar has won several Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions, while Sexton is a BJJ purple belt at SBG UK, one of the top British jiu jitsu schools.

The bout will be televised with the rest of the card on April 4th by ESPN Desportes, the Hispanic-oriented US sports channel.

Sexton is managed by Warrior Promotions, the UK-based management agency that also looks after UFC welterweight Dan Hardy.

Warrior Promotions also owns long-running UK MMA show CageWarriors, which recently enjoyed a successful expansion to the USA and will be staging its first Canadian show later this year.
