04/03/09 - Exclusive: Struve faces Stojnic in UFC roster eliminator
Stefan Struve (16-3) will be fighting Golden Glory heavyweight Denis ’The Menace’ Stojnic in a ‘loser gets cut’ match.
Fighters Only learned of the match at the weekend but could not report it until bout agreements were signed and retuned.
Struve made his UFC debut the weekend before last, being stopped by Junior Dos Santos in 54 seconds at UFC 95.
Stojnoc fared slightly better in his UFC debut against Cain Velasquez, lasting until 2:34 in the second round before being stopped by TKO.
Struve and Stojnic are both based in the Netherlands, and UFC 99 in Cologne is under two hours’ drive from most Dutch cities.
With the UFC pursuing an aggressive roster-cutting strategy at present, it is a certainty that the loser of Struve-Stojnic would be cut, as a loss would but them 0-2 in two fights for the UFC.
