28/02/09 - Rashad Evans signs UFC contract extension
UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has signed a new deal with the UFC, Fighters Only has learned.
The light-heavyweight champion agreed to the new contract - which will extend his time with the UFC - on Friday evening.
Details of the new contract were not available at time of writing, but Fighters Only hopes to learn more later today (update to follow).
Evans (13-0-1) won the light-heavyweight strap at UFC 92 with a TKO win over Forrest Griffin, who had taken the belt from Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in his previous fight.
Prior to that, Evans had knocked out former division champion Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell in devastating fashion, bringing his total of career KO’s to three.
Evans is the only undefeated champion in the UFC and the first ever undefeated light-heavyweight champion that the organisation has had.
But several pretenders to his crown are waiting in the wings; Jackson has been promised a title shot if he can get past Keith Jardine while Lyoto Machida, undefeated in his 14 fight career, is also on the verge of a title shot.
