11/12/08 - Rumour: CroCop to fight Hong Man Choi on NYE
Mirko ‘CroCop' Filopovic is being lined up for a fight with Korean giant Hong Man Choi, it has been rumoured.
Reports on several Korean websites indicate the pair are being offered a fight with each other for K-1 Fields Dynamite on New Year's Eve.
But the reports are unconfirmed and there has been no official statement from either fighter's camp, nor the K-1 organisation.
Filopovic last fought in October, when a long-awaited clash with Dutch heavyweight Alistair Overeem ended in controversy.
The Croatian received several low blows and was unable to continue, forcing the bout to be ruled a no contest.
Choi stands 7'2" and his walkaround weight in excess of 150 kilos, making him a foot taller then Filopovic and around 45 kilos heavier.
He competes regularly on the K-1 kickboxing circuit, although with mixed success, and has fought MMA just twice.
Choi's first MMA bout was a win over Japanese television comedian Bobby Olugun, while his second was a loss to Fedor Emelianenko.
Both took place on K-1 New Year's Eve shows, suggesting that Choi may well be fighting again this year, even if Filopovic is not his opponent.
