29/10/08 - Ninja looking at move back to Japan

Murilo ‘Ninja’ Rua is keen to head back to Japan now that EliteXC has folded, according to a Brazilian magazine.

Ninja, brother of UFC light-heavyweight Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (see picture), told Tatame that he enjoyed his five years fighting in Japan.

“I’ll see what I’m gonna do. I’ll speak with my manager and look for another event, maybe in Japan. I don’t have anything right yet, but I believe Japan is a good opportunity,” he said.

Ninja fought for PRIDE FC between 2001 and 2005, engaging in 13 bouts for the organization and leaving with a record of six wins and seven losses.

Although he arrived in the organization undefeated and with the reputation of a fierce finisher, he was never managed to beat top-tier opponents such as Dan Henderson and Rampage Jackson.

After leaving PRIDE, he went 4-0 in England’s Cage Rage promotion and 1-2 in EliteXC, with his last fight being a stoppage loss to Benji Radach at EliteXC: Heat at the start of October.

‘Heat’ was the event that sent EliteXC into meltdown, after heavyweight cash cow Kimbo Slice was butchered in seconds by Seth Petruzelli, who compounded the organization’s woes by then revealing that he had been paid not to try and take Slice down.
