24/10/08 - Exclusive: Politics were behind Chonan decision, says Carneiro
Roan ‘Jucao’ Carneiro is still angry at his decision loss to Ryo Chonan at UFC 88 last month, a fight he believes he won.
Speaking to Fighters Only this week, he claimed that the judges knew he had won the fight, but had other reasons for awarding Chonan the win.
“Myself, I feel OK about that fight against Chonan. I'm sure I won the fight. Everyone knows that, even him.
“They dropped me that victory for political reasons.”
However, the Brazilian welterweight says he has “no regrets” and is concentrating on improving his game before his next fight.
“I'm certainly getting better and better,” he warned future opponents, before calling for a rematch with Kevin Burns.
“I was too upset versus Burns. I had a lot of problems to cut weight, although that is not an excuse. I feel I missed an opportunity. I want to fight him when I am OK.”
