12/09/08 - Kongo joins Rampage at Wolfslair
Cheick Kongo has followed Quinton ‘Rampage' Jackson to The Wolfslair, Britain's top MMA team.
Gym co-owner Anthony McGann said the deal came about because Kongo was "looking for a change".
Kongo and Jackson were both previously signed to Juanito Ibarra, but Jackson had an acrimonious split with him after losing the UFC light-heavyweight belt to Forrest Griffin.
He moved to the Wolfslair last week, as reported exclusively by Fighters Only, signing a three-year deal with the gym.
French heavyweight Kongo has followed in his footsteps because the Wolfslair "is nearer to his home in Paris" and can help with the "problems" he has been having in negotiating his new UFC contract, said McGann.
The move means that the gym has doubled its number of UFC fighters; Michael Bisping, Quinton ‘Rampage' Jackson, Paul Kelly and Cheick Kongo cover every weight class except lightweight.
McGann believes that the recent signings prove that the Wolfslair "is up there with the USA in terms of the quality of our gyms" and is "one of the top gyms in the UFC".
